AreMac4417Areces took on the Spainsh Nation div 1 league leaders last night in a thrilling end to end match. Early in the first half SHUM Grupo Maestre took the lead with a lucky penalty when Areces goalkeeper Ian Morrison saved the initial shot but the referee disaloud the shot due to a player prematurely crossing the line. The second attempt ended in a successful goal after the ball deflected off the goalkeepers skate.

Throughout the match we saw no more goals but very good defending from both sides with the final score ending at 0-1 to the relief on the faces of the players from SHUM Grupo Maestre.

Euro League roller hockey is not for England but you could see it if you take a day trip on the tunnel to St Omer France, yes it is a long day but with a bit of shopping a french meal and an evening of quality roller hockey at the town’s rink its a day you wouldn’t forget.

Last Saturday SCRA St Omer played their January Euro League match against Italy’s premier league winners Follonica. The visitors took the first goal of the match much to the disgust of the 600 home grown spectators, the home team soon rallied and made the score even with everything to play for. Follonia took the match with a final score of 1-2 but it could have gone either way.
