Goodwood Roller Marathon

Filed under: UK National News — Gordon Morrison @ 2 April 2009

skatesthumbblacksmall.jpgAugust 9th, 2009 sees the 8th running of the Goodwood Roller Marathon. Held at the historic Goodwood motor racing circuit near Chichester, West Sussex, the event offers the opportunity to skate outside, on smooth, traffic free tarmac.

The marathon distance of 42 kilometres is not the only distance on offer. A mini-marathon (5 miles), half marathon (13 miles) and double marathon (56 miles) are all available options.

The event attracts a whole range of skating ability (over 300 in 2008), from the fastest speed skaters in the UK to others in fancy dress raising money for the NSPCC, the event’s charity. In previous years roller hockey contingents from Southsea and Plymouth have supported the event.

In 2008, England ladies goalkeeper Kirsty Ingham completed the marathon in a very creditable 2hrs 51 mins.

Goodwood is a great day out. Bring a picnic. And just occasionally we are treated to a flying display from the airfield in the middle of the circuit (it was Hurricane fly past in 2007).
