SPAIN, WINNERS OF THE 2007 COUPE DES NATIONS

Easter weekend saw Spain win the 62nd Coupe des nations in Montreux Switzerland. Eight teams from Europe and South America competed for the title at the Pierrier Hall in Montreux-Clarens. The competition is held bi-annually approx. two months before every senior world championships so teams competing in worlds top senior championships are always keen to receive an invite to this prestigious competition.

The seven national teams who attended last weekend were particularly pleased because the Pierrier Hall in Montreux-Clarens will host the 2007 Men’s senior world roller hockey championships in June. This tournament was also a good practice run for the organising committee to iron out any potential problems.

England are one of the sixteen teams competing in Switzerland in June after qualifying in San Jose USA in August 2005. The team lead by NRHA coaching director Carlos Amaral plan to travel to this years world championships several days early to enable the teams to get some last minute training in at a nearby rink.
